400 crystals?

I'm trying to figure out how using crystals before fusion can be THAT extremely beneficial. I probably don't understand the math very well, so please be patient with my lack of understanding...

For example, if I 50 crystal an R1 character and then fuse it as a source - by the time I'm at an E2 character won't the 500+ bonus be reduced to a simple 0.5+?

If I 50 crystal an R1 character and then fuse it as a target, when it is an R2 character, am I able to add another 50 crystals to it? And if so, does that mean I can 4x stack the 500+ benefits? THAT would make sense because I could see how 200 crystals on targets could give me a 2000+ point boost... ...but I haven't seen anyone boasting those kind of stats on their characters, so I'm obviously missing something here.

I've searched for an explanation on moding and can't find anything that makes any sense to me. Perhaps someone can explain it to me here...? Thanks.

The 50 crystals on the first R1 transfers over, meaning it is the same as adding 50 crystals to the final form. The big deal about 50+ crystal builds is that they give you that essential edge over other top players. For example, if two squadmates are the same, except for even something as small as 1 AGI difference, the one with the 1 more AGI will move first.

The basic pro evolution is 200 crystals, which translates to +650 to all stats: +500 from first 50 crystals, and +150 from the later 150 crystals (10% of the normally +1500).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that in order to get the maximum stat boost of 2320+, you would use 700 crystals (ignoring the single 0.5 stat boost from 50 crystals on unit H). The most 400 crystals would get you is a boost of 2200+). The "most bang for your buck" is just to do a 200 crystal build with a 2000+ stat boost.

So, am I understanding this correctly now?

200 crystals = 650 stat boost

400 crystals = 665.5 stat boost

EDIT: 400 (8 x 50 = 400) is the max amount that u can use

Okay, Zzz, that conflicts with what bwjoejr posted. Now, I'm completely confused again. Sorry I'm such an idiot.

The letters show how the stats carries over. So you have the 8 r1 fams and put all the crystals into each one. In the final product e4 the following will be the stat increase.

A = +500
B = +50
C = +50
D = +5
E = +50
F = +5
G = +5
H = +0.5

If you put crystals into the target like say 1+1 the 2* will already have crystals in it.

So the difference between 200 crystals and 400 crystals is a 15.5+ stats boost. It all makes sense now...
